Why Jerry Jones won’t allow this to happen makes no sense

The Dallas Cowboys have one more game on their schedule and, given Cooper Rush’s struggles against the Philadelphia Eagles, why won’t Jerry Jones suck up his pride and give us all what we want for the final game of the season?

It’ll be Week 18 and, with nothing to fight for, it might happen, but actions speak louder than words, they say.

Will Trey Lance get a chance to start in the final game of the season? Why not, Jerry? I don’t understand how you can say wins are important when you just watched what Rush did, and already being out of the playoffs with nothing to play for.

You traded a 4th round pick for him, and you are not even trying to see if he can get you value this offseason?

Awful Decision

Lance joined the Cowboys in 2023 after being acquired from the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick. I still remember the moment, I remember every single person thinking this was the future for the Cowboys.

The future because everyone who said it hates Dak Prescott.

The former third-overall pick brought intrigue but faced limited opportunities behind Prescott and Rush on the depth chart.

Lance got the majority of preseason reps for the Cowboys but did little to impress or show the Cowboys that he could be Prescott’s primary backup entering the regular season.

He completed 73 of 113 pass attempts with 662 passing yards, two passing touchdowns and five interceptions. He threw all five of those picks in one game, against guys who did not even make the final 53 for any NFL team.

He added 24 carries for 168 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.

Yet, here I am saying, what is it going to hurt in week 18? Washington has already clinched a playoff spot, and the Cowboys are looking to help their draft position.

You traded a 4th round pick for NOTHING. You are going to more than likely cut him this offseason, anyway.

2025 Is A Blur

It doesn’t help that the Cowboys are paying Lance nearly twice as much as Cooper Rush. Rush is currently sitting with a contract paying him $2.5 million a year.

On the other hand, Lance is riding the bench for over $5 million. He’s holding on to cap money and not on the field. It makes no sense to keep him now, especially because the Cowboys never saw what they had with him.

So Jerry traded a pick away for nothing? Let that sink in. He flat out traded a 4th round pick, because at the time nobody was talking about his Dallas Cowboys enough.

He made the move to get the media back on his side, and now he won’t suck up his pride, play him and attempt to get SOMETHING out of him.

He is going to be cut next year, this team is about to be out a 4th round pick, and $5 million dollars for nothing?

Jones said yesterday afternoon that he may look at giving Lance a try next week. ““We want to finish strong against Washington. We’ll look at that situation this week and see where we go from there.”

I am not buying it, he is only saying this because Cooper Rush finally did not have to play against a awful team like the Giants or the Panthers, he couldn’t score points without just throwing it up to CeeDee Lamb and hoping he made a play.

This season went from bad to worse in a hurry, and if you look at some of my post from before the season started, I said some of this might happen.

2025 is going a interesting year, whether Mike McCarthy is back or not.
