Dallas looks to rebound against Raiders in Las Vegas

The Dallas Cowboys will look to rebound from Sunday’s heartbreaking, last-second loss at the Las Vegas Raiders today.

The Cowboys’ offense will try to finally put the ball in the endzone after settling for four field goals in the loss to the Rams.

The Raiders are also coming off a last-second loss in last week’s preseason opener. The Vikings got a 38-yard Will Reichard field goal as time expired for a 24-23 win over Las Vegas.

Barring a tie, one of these teams will be 1-1 and the other 0-2 after the dust settles tonight.

Long Time No See

The last time the Cowboys played the Raiders in a preseason game on the road was back in 2017. Back then, they were the Oakland Raiders.

The game was played at AT&T Stadium and was scheduled to be the next-to-last game of the preseason.

The Cowboys were supposed to play a fifth game – at Houston – but it was wiped out by Hurricane Harvey.

Ezekiel Elliott Quietly had Another Excellent Season 1

Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott started the game and led Dallas to a field goal for an early, 3-0 lead. But the Raiders rallied for a 20-10 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Cooper Rush – an undrafted free agent rookie — threw two touchdown passes in the final 15 minutes for a 24-20 win.

Dallas won last year’s preseason match-up at AT&T Stadium, 31-16, with Prescott calling the plays on the sideline.

Will Grier was at quarterback and threw four touchdowns. Two of his scoring passes went to Hunter Luepke and Luke Schoonmaker.

RB/FB Hunter Luepke hauls in a pass from QB Will Grier, and turns it into a touchdown.

When it comes to regular season meetings, the Raiders hold a 7-6 record all-time over the Cowboys.

The last time the teams played in the regular season, the Raiders upended the Cowboys 36-33 in overtime of the 2021 Thanksgiving Day game.

The loss snapped a three-game win streak Dallas had enjoyed. The Cowboys are 4-3 in road games against the Raiders however.

The two teams are not scheduled to meet this season unless both reach the Super Bowl in New Orleans in February.

Who To Watch

The battle for backup QB continues. Cooper Rush got in one series last week and led Dallas to three points.

Trey Lance played the rest of the way and put up nine points on three field goal tries.

Not exactly an impressive case to replace Rush as QB2 that.

Meanwhile, both Luke Schoonmaker and Peyton Hendershot are looking over their shoulders too.

Second-year tight end John Stephens and undrafted rookie Brevyn Spann-Ford put together solid games on Sunday.

Hendershot is probably not going to make the roster. Schoonmaker should, but if he struggles or his injury history strikes again, he could be in trouble too.

While most of the attention at linebacker has been the return of DeMarvion Overshown from last year’s ACL tear, UDFA linebacker, Brock Mogenson, had a nice showing.

Mogenson had a couple of tackles. The South Dakota alum added a nice interception and return as well.

Mogenson might not be able to crack the starting lineup.

But he still might make the roster at the end of the month.

Silence Of The Lamb

CeeDee Lamb’s holdout continues apace.

Jerry Jones walked back his curious comment about “urgency” and his lack thereof in regard to the contract situation.

CeeDee Lamb, in a white and blue uniform, sprints determinedly across the field, clutching the football tightly during a high-stakes game.

Still, Lamb remains away from camp. Nor does it seem like there is much movement on that front.

Jalen Brooks took full advantage on Sunday of Lamb’s absence – along with Jalen Tolbert and Brandin Cooks – from the lineup.

Brooks hauled in both passes thrown his way for 49 yards. The biggest catch was a 43-yard bomb from Cooper Rush on the Cowboys’ opening drive.

Prescott Says Ankle Is Fine

Dak Prescott returned to practice after skipping a day last week and sitting out the preseason opener.

Prescott not playing in the preseason is not news. He hasn’t played in one in this decade.

So don’t expect that trend to end today when the teams take the field at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
