Javonte Williams is looking like the steal of the 2025 offseason

Running back with the football evades two defenders during an National Football League game, showcasing the Dallas Cowboys' offensive play against the opposing team.

The Dallas Cowboys signed running back Javonte Williams on a “prove it” type contract for a 1-year, $3 million dollar deal, and through five games, they look like they got the best steal of the offseason.

In a 37-22 win over the New York Jets in Week 5, Williams ran for a career-high 135 yards on just 16 carries to go with two touchdowns.

He leads the Cowboys with 447 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns and is averaging 5.0 yards per carry.

He is currently third in football in rushing only behind Jonathan Taylor and James Cook.

Ride The Wave

With four of the starting five offensive linemen out and no CeeDee Lamb against the Jets, the offense did not miss a beat.

Williams really broke this game open when he set up a touchdown right before half with a 66-yard run all the way down to the two-yard line.

Miles Sanders is still banged up, but even when he gets back, I would not give him many snaps at all.

Ride Williams and sprinkle in Jaydon Blue a bit, and you have an above-average backfield.

Nobody thought this would work, and through the first five games, we have to give credit to not only Williams, but Brian Schottenheimer and Klayton Adams. They are making this work at the highest level to start the season.

I mean, let’s be real, nobody thought, after five weeks, Williams would be 1st in rushing yards in the NFC, 2nd in rushing yards in the NFL, 2nd in total touchdowns and 6th in total yards in the NFL.

If he can stay upright and not end up on the IR, I think with this offense the Cowboys have a legit chance to make the playoffs. This is not something I thought they would be able to accomplish when the year started.

Heck, I picked them to have a top 10 draft pick!

The Cowboys play the Panthers next week, and then the schedule heats up with the Commanders and the Broncos, but the way that the offense is rolling, I really do think that they could win maybe two out of the next three if not all three!

They get the Panthers and Broncos on the road, but they will beat the Panthers and the Commanders at home. Washington struggled to beat Cooper Rush a year ago, and we know how that story goes.

They should have CeeDee Lamb back by then and the offense will be even better.

I thought if he was 80% back from that knee injury, they may have something there when they signed him. Looks like he is close to all the way back. If he continues to produce like this, they may just be in the mix. He was awesome in college.

You can’t say nobody expected Williams to be good, because I did!! Every time you or your friends wrote about how bad the RB position was or that Williams was washed up or that we needed to find a better RB, I made a comment every time saying you were wrong!! I told every one of you that Williams is gonna be good this year!! And I told you that Williams had a hard time getting back to normal after his injury because it takes up to 3 years for a player to get back to normal after an injury like he had!! And then I said he is signing with us right on that 3 year mark, so I expect him to be the player he was when he was drafted early in the 2nd round, and the player he was in his rookie year!! I knew it was gonna happen, but these so called experts and writers didn’t believe it!! And it’s more than likely because they don’t understand that a player can’t come back from an injury like that and start dominating right away!! It takes time!! And just because the player is medically cleared to play football again, it doesn’t mean they’re mentally ready!! And after that big of an injury, it takes a while to get mentally ready!! That’s why they say it can take up to 3 years for the player to get back to normal!! Plus, I knew who we had as an offensive coordinator and offensive line coach!! Clayton Adams is a genius when it comes to getting the run game going, and between him and the offensive line coach, they’re the best at getting the best out of the offensive line too!! And I think the jets game proved that!! We had 4 backups on the offensive line in that game and it looked like they were all starters!! So I think everybody underestimated our RBs, especially Javonte Williams, and the coaching staff, but I can honestly say I wasn’t one of them people!! And I’m glad I can sit here and write this saying I was right the whole time!!
