Well, the news we have all been waiting for has finally come out and settled, Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey has signed a new record deal with Dallas.

He signed a 4-year, $28M, record-setting extension with $20M guaranteed in a deal negotiated by agents Todd France and AJ Stevens.

That makes him the highest kicker in the HISTORY of football. 20 million dollars, no matter what, just seems like a MASSIVE gamble.

Now before I get into the rest of this, let me first say, I am happy Aubrey is staying with Dallas, but paying that much money is something that Jerry Jones loves to do.

The largest deal before this was Harrison Butker at $6.4m per year, and Aubrey gets $7m per year.

Sources: There is a new highest-paid kicker in the NFL, as the #Cowboys and All-Pro Brandon Aubrey have a deal.

Down Year?

In terms of what we expect from Aubrey, 2025 felt like a down year, agree?

While using the restricted free agent tender would have Aubrey under contract only for 2026, the Cowboys could have used the franchise tag on him in 2027 to effectively keep him out of free agency.

Aubrey, who just turned 31, has been named to the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons. He has made six field goals from 60 yards or longer, the most in NFL history. Last season, he connected on 11-of-17 field goal attempts from 50 yards or more.

For his career, Aubrey has made 112 of 127 attempts with a career-long 65-yarder. In 2025, he connected on 36 of 42 tries, and the six misses were from 51 yards or longer.

Yet, last season I was not as confident as I normally am when he walked out there.

In his first two years, he only missed a total of three times from 50 plus and last season he missed six times from that distance, so maybe I am an overreaction, but 7 million dollars seems like way too much for a kicker, guys.

Yell at me all you want, but it seems like every single time that Dallas signs a guy, they always hit a wall, and then they are off the team within like two or three years.

Happened with Trevon Diggs, Dez Bryant and now DaRon Bland can’t stay on the field after signing his huge deal, so we will see what happens I guess.

Brandon is probably the one I trust the most, but he will need to get back to his All Pro seasons to be worth this contract.

Either way, the Cowboys get a deal done with the kicker. If a team signed him before Dallas, they would have gotten a second round pick in return, and it seems like many of the fans around here wanted that instead.

Nonetheless, now the Cowboys need to turn their attention to the NFL draft this week and look to sign George Pickens, who will either play with Dallas this year or sit out, because no team is going to give up two first round picks by July and sign him to a deal.

Credit to Jerry, I guess, for getting deals done before the summer this year though. He signed Javonte Williams very early and now got Aubrey done before the NFL draft. This might be a record for Jones and the front office to be honest.

Let’s see how this plays out, but either way, the offensive side of the ball should not be an issue this season, it will all fall on the defense again, and with dang near every single person returning from the side that scores points, they will average 30 again.

The biggest question is, will the defense be able to stop anyone, like ever? No idea, but one more step in the right direction, I guess.
