Cowboys Draft Target: Alabama Crimson Tide CB Patrick Surtain II
CB Patrick Surtain Jr, 2021 Draft Prospect

In a normal offseason we’d all be preparing to watch and learn more about some this year’s top prospects at the NFL Scouting Combine, but this is anything but a normal offseason. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic just about all in person workouts have been shut down, including the Scouting Combine. That’s not great news as it relates to the evaluation process.

Without these tools scouts and draft analysts are going to have to rely heavily on film more than they probably have at any point in recent history. As such, we might not see as much change in how these players are ranked right now and on Draft Day in April. With that in mind, I thought I’d share with you my Top 10 players at each position.

Today, we will take a look at the cornerback position.

I am not much of an expert here, but you are the first person I read that ranks Jayce Horn above Surtain and Caleb Farley. What is your reasoning behind this ?

He has a lot of intangibles the other two don’t show on tape… Physicality, versatility, and attitude to name a few. I think that makes him stand out a little bit over Farley and Surtain.

Georgia certainly had a nice duo. Any of the top five work well. Don’t necessarily have to go for CB in first rd, imo.

I actually ain’t mad at that ranking , Horn is a lot like Farley in the way he plays but without the injury issues and he’s more gifted than Surtain , wouldn’t be mad at any of those 3 being selected though

Impressive amount of commentary on each of these players. The writer really makes a strong justification for the qualities that each player has to explain why they fall where they do… or it’s just a random list with a name, position, and college and no useful information whatsoever.

I think if Horn is that good then they would be better served trading down to get him as i suspect Surtain/Farley will go ahead of him. Incidentally I’m not necessarily sold on ANY of these CBs. I think they are the best available but none of them strike me as true blue chip types.

Like VAM said we don’t have to go CB in the 1st round. We might could get one in the 2nd or 3rd that isn’t much worse then the top guys. Just don’t wanna get locked into any one position. Just depends on where the values is. We have needs at nearly every position on defense so we probably can’t go wrong adopting the BPA approach.

I’m fine with going other positions too , maybe if Parsons is there you’d go there , or maybe trade down and get Horn or Barmore and keep going BPA from there on

hopefully ‘boys not drafting at ten again for mny yrs. Football Jerry as Jones sees himself, won’t pay really gd DB’s a second contract. Why burn a top pick for a 4-5yr rental? Get the best left offensive left ttackle available who will step in when Smith goes down with injuries again this year. A guy who’ll hopefully be here 8-10 years or maybe more.
